Character[]
Ben is the father of Janet Sosna. He is very traditional in his beliefs and opposed to Janet dating Steve Sanders because Steve isn't Japanese.
Story[]
After Steve and Janet invite Michelle and Ben to dinner, Ben refuses to even sit down with them once he learns that Janet is pregnant and they announce their impending wedding. Michelle and Ben leave and later attempt to talk Janet into moving back home. When they meet Steve's family, Rush Sanders and his Samantha's girlfriend get into an argument, causing the Sosnas to leave again.
At Christmas, Steve and Janet run into Ben and Michelle at a Christmas tree lot. Ben and Michelle both seem to soften at the sight of their granddaughter, Madeline Sanders. Steve later confronts the Sosnas at their house and tells them he's not going to let them be part of Madeline's life, if they would just abandon her should they not like something Madeline did, much like they did with Janet. Steve invites them over for Christmas and tells them it will be their last chance. They show up at Christmas to visit Madeline and Janet.
